Education and Experience

I am a naturopathic doctor (use of title of Doctor before your name is illegal in some states including Arkansas) board certified by the ANMA (American Naturopathic Medical Association).  I graduated Herbal Healer Academy with the title ND in May of 1998, and received board certification from the ANMCAB (American Naturopathic Medical Certification and Accreditation Board) in June of 1998.  Prior to this I studied on my own, midwifery, herbal medicine, nutrition, reflexology, and other related subjects.  I have certification as a Domestic Violence counselor, worked in a battered women's shelter for two years, have training in psychology and social work, and many other fields.

Midwifery education includes:  a 2 yr apprenticeship with a licensed lay midwife, an intensive clinical internship at Maternidad La Luz in El Paso, Tx., another 2yr apprenticeship with another licensed lay midwife, and have practiced on my own ever since.  I have studied under as many midwives as possible to get as well rounded an education as I could, and continue to work with other midwives as a birth assitant when I'm not practicing. In addition, I stay on a few midwife mailing lists so that I am always learning even if not currently practicing.  This also gives me a broad base of knowledge to draw from when I run across questions I'm not sure how to answer.   I have been working in midwifery for 14 years now and am always studying to stay current.

Herbal education was mostly reading every book I could find for the last 17 years, lots and lots of empirical experience, then courses studied for my Naturopathic degree.  Herbal medicine was a very large part of study to become a Naturopath in the school I attended.  I am currently working on a Masters in Herbalism and also on a PhD in natural medicine.

Naturopathic education included: Herbal Medicine, Nutrition/Chemistry, Anatomy/Physiology, Reflexology, Acupressure, Massage and the Healing Touch, Chronic Diseases Death and Dying,  Homeopathy,  Chinese Finger and Tongue Diagnosis, Bach Flower Remedies (practitioner's course), and Vibrational Medicine, Hypnotherapy.  These courses were very comprehensive and I have been following up in all subjects since graduating.

I worked for four years for the Herbal Healer Academy as a Professional Natural Health Consultant before going out on my own.  The education I received there was invaluable, and the day to day lessons not offered by any school helped me to really hone my skills.  I became extremely adept at consulting over the telephone and continue this practice in addition to the consultations I do in my office.  I have also worked for a health food store as their natural health consultant.  I taught seminars for this same store every month.  I have done interviews for the radio, written articles for publication in a local newspaper, and currently have a growing consultation business.  I will be opening a clinic in the next year or two.
